A Hint of Summer Still Around

I know It's been awhile since I last posted. I've been super busy creating. I got asked to sell some of my primitives in a Art Gallery!! I wasn't to sure about doing it at first, but the owner and my daughter talked me into it. I don't know if you would consider my stuff art worthy. So that's where I have been. I've also been working on some new Santa items too! I hope to have some pics of those things posted on here tomorrow night.

So today was fall cleanup day in our yard. Hubby raked and mowed the yard while I dumped all my clay flower pots and put them away in our shed for the winter. This is always a back breaking activity for me. Just glad it's done for another year. When I was working in the yard, I noticed a beautiful butterfly on my chrysanthemum. I thought the butterflies had all gone south or died since we've had some really cold temps the last couple of days. It got down into the upper 20's the other night. I checked on the Internet and found out this butterfly is called a Common Buckeye. I was on the look out for butterflies all summer and it took me till fall to finally capture one on my camera! Isn't he gorgeous with those spots!! This really made my day!

Then on the same mum was this little guy. Not sure what it is. It almost looks to me like a butterfly that just came out of its cocoon. See how his wings are still kind of crumbled up. His body looks like it could be a butterfly. Are butterflies still coming out of their cocoons this late?? He can't be a moth because they have those fuzzy antennas, right?
I have a bunch of different colored mums and these two guys like my daisy like mums the best. Probably because they have those yellow centers where they can get something good to eat. LOL
OK time to go relax and get my feet up and do some hand stitching! Everyone have a safe Happy Halloween tomorrow!!! Oh almost forgot. I need to cut out my pumpkins tonight! I guess I can't relax just yet.

A few More Prim Santa's

Finished up this Santa doll today. His coat, hat and cape are made from some wool that I bought at an estate sale, 3 yards for $3.00. This lady had a mountain of fabric for sale. Got a bunch of other wool too. Santa will be listed in my etsy shop tonight. I'm having great fun creating these Santa's. My favorite part is needle felting their beards. They really come to life after that. I think I better order some more sheep's wool!

This is a Santa Make Do that I finished yesterday and is listed now in my etsy shop.

Here's Luna who's been living with us for about a month now. She is my youngest daughters kitty. Luna had to move in with us for the time being after my daughter and boyfriend broke up. She is the sweetest little thing.

Perfect Pumpkin Patch Pickin!

Today was a gorgeous fall day and perfect picking pumpkins even though it was 80º! My daughter and I made a trip to our favorite place, Country Corner to pick out pumpkins. I wanted to go before the weekend when everyone and their neighbor would be there. They have big events every weekend in October.

This is the display I made up with all I bought. I might want to go back and get some more to decorate my back steps.

I finally got my big white pumpkin that I've been wanting to get for the past couple of years. And got some little baby ones too.

A cart full of gourds! I love to pick out the colorful and odd shaped ones. This is my daughter looking for that perfect one!

Hayrack full of the small pie pumpkins

And they have a small petting zoo for the kids. I love goaties!! This one didn't want you to stop petting him! Love his beard or I should say goatee!

Becky standing by the gourd hut where they keep all the different size gourds.
It was a perfect day!

A Little Bit of Christmas

We sure have been having some beautiful weather these days! Nice and sunny and around 70º during the day. Can't believe that tomorrow is the first day of October! Where did the summer go?

Well I think its time to get a little head start on making some Christmas! I made a couple of these Santa Head Make Do's last year and thought maybe I should make a few more for this year since I found some wonderful wool at an estate sale a couple of weeks ago. I'll be making this into a pattern, it's super easy to make. This Santa will be listed in my etsy shop this evening.

I'm still working on a few fall items. This is what I kept busy with last weekend. Some of these I mailed to NC to my daughter. She is going to decorate her home and my son in laws chiropractic office. If anyone is interested in some of these pumpkin ornies, just let me know and I can make up a bunch in a jiffy.

Make Your Own Primitive Fall Twig Wreath

Just noticed only 5 more followers until I reach 400 for my big giveaway!!

I was sitting out on my deck the other day enjoying the birds at my bird feeders when I looked down at the mess of twigs scattered all over. I am constantly sweeping them off the deck. We have several huge trees that hang over our deck. I've always liked those twig wreaths and decided I might try making my very own.

Click on each picture for a more closeup view for the detail.

I used a heavy rusty wire shaped into a 4" circle. You could also use a old wire coat hanger.

Gather up bunches of twigs that are around 6" or 7" inches long. Wrap with rusty wire very tightly. I like to add a few tiny thin twigs for that wispy look. I ended up making around 17 bunches for my wreath.

Then start attaching the bunches one at a time with your rusty wire, laying them horizontal with the wire frame you made. Once you get one attached lay the next bunch slightly down a little on top of your first bunch. And so on and so forth.

You then end up with a wreath that is about 11" across! You could make these any size.

Perfect Day for the Zoo!

Went to the zoo today while my daughter and granddaughter are here visiting from NC. Hubby took the day off from work and went along, and so did my youngest daughter. It was a beautiful day in the mid 70's. All of us had the best time. And it was free admission day so it was packed. Enjoy the pics!

Fall is in the Air!

What a gorgeous day it is today! Just perfect. Couldn't ask for better. My gardens are about done for the summer. Did spend a little time pulling some weeds. My mums are getting ready to bloom! I'll have to post some pics when they are ready.

I finished up these little coin purses today and will have them listed in my etsy shop tonight. They are made with all recycled wool. I even recycled one of the zippers from a wool grey skirt which I made the grey one with. They measure 5 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" tall and are just the right size to hold your cell phone, ipod, and your monies.

This is what I've been busy with the last week. These are part of a custom order for my friend who has a cute little shop in Australia called Newspaper Taxi. She wanted a few made with Christmas fabric.

Featured on Primitive Post!

Kate from Primitive Post blog has me featured as one of her artist on her blog this week. You should stop over and see some of the other amazing artist she has featured!

I haven't been around much lately because I am working on another custom order for my friend Stef in Australia. She wants 30 more birds for her shop. Just about have them done. Then I can take a little break while my daughter and granddaughter are here to visit for a week. Then it's time to get working on Christmas! I've got a few ideas already!!

We've been having the most beautiful weather! Fall sure is in the air. I'm starting to see a hint of the leaves turning already. Soon my little hummingbird friends will be flying south. It was a great summer for them this year. I had many more hummers this year then previous years. So glad to see more male hummers this year too. Never did get a picture of one. They are a little more timid then the females. I'll have to work on that next year. I'm going to miss them, they are so fun to watch.

Primitive Woodland Wren Ornies

Now I have my confidence up about using my printer to print on fabric. I made these little guys with my favorite little bird, a wren. I'm going to look into making other birds as well. I will be listing these in a set of 4 in my etsy shop later tonight. They are about 2 1/2" tall by 3 1/2" wide and they will be signed on the back by me. If anyone would like a custom order just let me know.
