Deer?
I am so mad! It doesn't look like I am going to have tulips blooming for the second year in a row. Last year a hard frost got them and now something has eaten them!! I am guessing deer, because the way they are eaten all the way to the ground. Don't think a rabbit can do that on a whole row of tulips, that I have planted behind my garage. I have never had this happen before. I live in town, in a residental neighborhood. I've been living in the same house for about 24 years, and in the last 2 years have been seeing deer when we have never had them around here before. Just 2 weeks ago around 7 a.m. I looked out my front living room window and there about 6 feet away from my house was a deer looking into my backyard! The deer population has really gotten out of hand around here. Back in January I saw a coyote walking down the middle of our neighborhood street! I've only seen them out in the country. Poor animals don't know where to go anymore. Ok...for anyone that reads my blog, maybe you can tell me if this looks like deer that have eaten my tulips, and if there is anything that I can do to prevent this from happening again?
Looks like it could be to me, and since you've been seeing them around lately. You can plant some other plants around your tulips that keep deer away. You might have to google it. Or maybe cover them with some mesh wire, and remove it when they bloom?
ReplyDeleteI live in the woods, so the deer don't really bother my plants too much.
It is sad though that they have no where to go...We keep taking their land. But how scary to see coyote walking down the street...that could be dangerous for little children.
I hope you can save your tulips next year! :)

Naomi, Yeah, I hope I can save my tulips next year. If you look at the bottom of my blog I have pictures of flowers from my garden and one of them is what my tulips look like when they all are blooming.
ReplyDeleteOh well, I guess I'll have to wait until next year....

probably deer. we moved into this house last may 6th and the daffodils and asiatic lillies were already blooming and i figure the tulips already eaten because this year as soon as the snow cleared from this little area in the corner by the back porch tulips are coming up...the deer have not gotten them yet. we are going to put fences up from existing fence to side of house on two sides which will make my backyard totally fenced. i think i dislike deer more than squirrels, if they dont eat it, they step all over it! plus, they fling themselves in front of your care, bad bad deer
