Lately I've been fascinated with altered art. So here is my first attempt at it. This past Valentines Day I bought a box of chocolate truffles for my honey. When he opened up the box, we were surprised how clever the box was made. It had trays at different levels inside with the chocolates. Pretty cool huh! I saved this box thinking that I might do something with it, like use it to store some of my small stuff in. When I was in North Carolina visiting my cousin that works at the library, they had a shelf just as you walk out the door, with free books you could take. I took at couple books and one was a very old, falling apart book on French grammar. Before I began on my project, I took the trays out very carefully. I then tore the pages out of the old book and used good old modge podge to cover it. I then printed out vintage birds, bugs, butterflies from a vintage collage group on Flickr, and glued them down. And then covered the whole thing with modge podge. Glued the trays back in and there you have it.
This is what the box looked like before I started.
Fantastic first try! Love the combination of words and birds. You've turned a common item into a keepsake. Thanks for letting us see this.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have been saving a couple of boxes that came from a different candy to do something similar. Thanks sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!!! I love them:) Love, Jamie
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! I love the box and what you did to it!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the box and love that box.
ReplyDeleteThat would be so nice for keeping supplies and organizing them. Wish I could eat chocolates, lol.

I love this! Great job! hugs Kathy
ReplyDeleteLove it! I am impressed with how you recycled an old (candy?) box into something useful and artistic. A keepsake with a useful purpose, great job.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love these -
ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful. I love saving and reusing good boxes so this is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI love your box! I found you on Mod Podge Rocks. I am crazy about Mod Podge, and like you, I get books from my libraries used book sale that I tear apart to use for projects! My favorite are the old French books. Great job!
ReplyDeleteVery cute. I covered an entire bookcase with English and Italian dictionary pages and used Mod Podge. Loved how it turned out. Your boxes would look great on the shelves LOL
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea, decoupaging old book pages onto something to use daily. I have a couple of textbooks from nineteenth century mouldering away and I am going to think up something....as well as scan some pages for a digital family heritage scrapbook....thanks for sparking this idea.
ReplyDeleteWonderful project! I have a hard time cutting up books, but I love the things I see made with them. Nice job.
